About This Site

South Carolina booking photos and arrest records sit in different public systems. A county sheriff or detention office handles local booking records, while the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) search covers people currently incarcerated in state prison. This private guide explains those lines and points readers toward official records and search pages. It does not keep a mugshot gallery or a copy of government case files.

A Statewide Records Guide

South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act defines public records broadly enough to include photographs held by a public body, under S.C. Code ยง 30-4-20(c). That definition does not force each county to post every booking photo online. Exemptions, juvenile privacy rules, and local publishing choices still shape what a visitor can see.

Each county's law-enforcement and detention offices keep their own booking records. SCDC has a separate public locator for people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in state prison. Court systems record later case events, such as a hearing or final disposition. This site organizes those different paths so a reader can start with the right record holder; it does not republish booking images.

Guides Across South Carolina

The statewide pages explain where a record may live and what each source can answer:

  • The statewide search guide describes county roster and booking-feed differences, public-record requests, and the split between an arrest record and a prison profile.
  • The County Directory leads to the South Carolina county sites, where local booking sources are covered at county level.
  • Mugshot Laws explains the state's public-record rules, expungement effects, and the anti-pay-to-remove law.
  • The SCDC mugshot guide explains the official state-prison search and its limits; statewide pages also cover wanted lists, old records, and notable cases.

What This Site Cannot Do

South Carolina Busted Mugshots is privately operated and has no affiliation with a sheriff's office, jail, corrections department, or other government agency. It cannot hold or transfer someone in custody, arrange a bond, visit, or payment, or give legal advice.

  • We cannot release, hold, or move a person in custody.
  • We cannot post bond, arrange a visit, or send money for anyone.
  • We cannot advise on a legal matter or act for a court or agency.
  • We cannot promise every detail on a linked public page remains current.

Only the public office that holds a record can confirm current custody, charges, or release. Treat this guide as a starting point and rely on the official record for confirmation.

Search Partners

Some search boxes on this site are run by outside providers, whose prices and results they set. If a visitor follows one of those tools to a paid signup, this site may receive a referral fee. That income helps support free access to these guides, but it does not give us control over a partner's service, price, or search result.
